Chris Finlay is an accomplished and certified professional with over 10 years of experience working in various accounting firms. After working in small, medium, and large firms, he decided that it was time to make the leap to become a business owner. Chris loves the extensive level of service that small firms provide, one that larger firms can’t seem to match.
Inspired by his two parents who both worked in accounting, his mother as a bookkeeper, his father a Chartered Accountant (CA) and Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Chris chose accounting because it touches every aspect of business. Having worked in a small firm it’s allowed him to learn a lot—about a lot.
Throughout his career, Chris’s loyal clients have continually followed him because of his enthusiasm and passion for what he does, his ability to distil and explain complex jargon into plain English, his ease and flexibility in answering questions promptly, and, most of all, his commitment to excellence.
Although an unusual first step for a Canadian professional, Chris completed the uniform exams in the United States and acquired his Certified Public Accountant (CPA - New Hampshire) designation. Afterwards, he progressed in his career and obtained his Chartered Accountant (CA) designation in Canada, one that is transitioning into the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
Rather than waiting the exam results for his (CA) designation, which would be the standard approach, Chris began the specialized, three-year In-Depth Tax Course with the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA). Later, he successfully completed the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) exams. He then specialized further in the tax program by attending the CICA’s course on Advance Tax Issues for the Owner-Manager.
Finally, Chris has been specializing in providing part-time Chief Financial Officer services to his clientele—small and medium sized businesses. Chris also holds his Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation, one geared towards the management field of accounting.
An avid lover of the outdoors, Chris climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and has backpacked extensively in places ranging from Northern Alaska to Southern Africa with many stops in between. One day he hopes to find his way to Antarctica.
